TypePad博客平台落幕,互联网内容遗迹再添数字化挑战

TypePad, a blogging platform rooted in the Movable Type content management system, has ceased operations. Originally developed by Six Apart, TypePad was designed as a user-friendly, hosted solution, distinct from the self-hosted and customizable Movable Type. This divergence mirrored the WordPress.com and WordPress.org dynamic.
Following Six Apart's acquisition by VideoEgg in 2010, forming Say Media, the ownership of TypePad and Movable Type became fragmented. Say Media sold Movable Type to InfoCom in 2011 while retaining TypePad. Subsequently, TypePad was acquired by Endurance International Group in 2013. Current attempts to create new TypePad accounts redirect to BlueHost, an affiliate of Endurance International Group.
Movable Type, conversely, continues its development with its latest release in November 2024. The shutdown of TypePad represents the loss of another segment of historical internet content, with the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine serving as the primary repository for its remaining data.
